The Eighth Commandment: Don't lie

Hi! It has been a long time without writing, but here we go again…

When we were children we were taught that we shouldn’t lie, but sometimes the truth is a double-edged weapon and we have to know when we can use it; a lie is an escape route when the truth is painful. Most of the time we have to choose one of them when we talk with other person, especially if the subject is tricky or difficult to explain. The most common example, a subject difficult to explain, is when you explain to a child about the reproductive process, because it is easier and ethical lie about the process and say a tale as “the stork”; an example for a tricky subject is when it comes the other person’s feelings, lie about our emotional state not to worry the other is a very common behavior, but sometimes this conduct can trigger depression.

However, for me, it’s not bad to lie to make you feel good to others, the problem is when we continue lying to fuel a delusion that can have serious consequences, in those cases, say the truth is the better option, even if it hurts.

  1. You are right, it depends on the context and the degree of the lie, very good reasoning :)
